I have a public Betta breeding profile at

www.bettabox.com

http://www.bettaboxx.com/naan/

if you have baby fry and nothing to feed them, take some lettuce place it in a cup in water and set it in a window sill let it turn green then take a dropper like glass eye dropper and drip a dropper full into their water everyday, you will also need to crush regular betta pallets and drop a few drops of water in a corner of the crushed pellets it should turn to clay like form drop the soft pellet clump into tank, this is a good routine to follow if you cant get to pet store for food

Scarface Dancing For His Lady

This little guy, was set into the breeding tank for 2 days before introducing him to one of my females, on day 2 I put the female in net breeder, almost instantly he went to work building his bubble nest. He had been building a bubble nest in his 1 gallon fish bowl so I decided to give these two beautiful Betta a chance to see if they hit it off. After a few attempts with other males we came upon the spawning of Scarface and Foxy Lady. When you are breeding Betta it is best to just set aside all plans to leave the home you must prepare to commit to carefully watching the two so they dont harm each other too seriously.

building his bubble nest breeding foxy lady with scarface, we had a couple unsuccessful breeding attempts so we let her rest for awhile and continued after she healed up from last attempt.

My tank earned 5 Star Rating

Filtering Through Peat

Sherolyn-Basement Bettas

A good way to naturally lower the parameters of you water [pH, gH and kH] is to run your tap water though peat moss. You will still need to add a water conditioner like Prime to remove chlorine and chloramines as peat will not do anything for those. Peat will also not remove heavy metals so if you have these, choose a water condition for them as well.  A local garden center should be able to provide a bale of peat. I found [in 2010] a 1 cubic foot bag and it was priced about $10. It was a  bit more expensive than the 2.5 cubic bale of stuff from Lowe’s that cost about $6, but it was also Canadian Sphagnum that I read was preferred.

http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/features/articles/frequently-asked-questions-on-aquarium-ferns

What water conditions do these ferns need?

They are incredibly hardy, leading to widespread popularity. In nature they grow out of the water in shaded, tropical, moist conditions, though in the aquarium will grow fully submerged in soft or hard water, temperate or tropical.

They are often recommended even for brackish tanks, though it’s more likely that they just take a long time to die in salty conditions, rather than actually thriving.

Grow them in soft water which has reasonable water flow, a comprehensive liquid fertiliser and CO2 fertilisation.

Plants in my tanks:

ferns

peat moss

wild river grasses

Betta come from water channels in asia, when picking plants for your Betta try to consider the natural resources you would find in those areas of natural habitat.

http://www.wikihow.com/Breed-Betta-Fish

CAUTION:

YOU MAY READ ON SOME THREADS AND FORUMS OVER THE INTERNET HOW PEOPLE USE BLEACHING AGENTS TO DISINFECT PLANTS BEFORE THEY PUT THEM INTO THEIR FISH TANK. PLANTS ABSORB THINGS INTO THERE FOLIAGE, WHEN PUTTING BLEACH ON THEM YOU MAY ASWELL POOR THE BLEACH DIRECTLY INTO YOUR FISH TANK, SO THINK BEFORE YOU USE HOUSEHOLD CHEMICALS ON LIVING THINGS THAT WILL LATER BE DEPOSITED INTO YOUR AQUARIUM. BESIDES THAT BLEACH CAN KILL YOUR PLANTS I DO NOT SUGGEST USING BLEACH FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES IN YOUR TANK UNLESS ITS GLASS AND IT NEEDS TO BE THOROUGHLY SANITIZED.

Note artificial plants are o.k. for Betta as long as their the shorter plants short enough for the Betta to swim above and around and are in an area of the tank like against the glass for the fish to be able to somewhat avoid them. Notice my plants are no where near the nest. I do have very little pebbles in my tank barely a thin layer, for the fish to camouflage inside my hiding containers, otherwise it is preferrable not to use pebbles when breeding due to eggs falling in them and it being hard for the male to put them back in the nest.

Below are images of my Home Pet Center My Reptile Aquarium and Fish Tank Aquariums

I found some great wild river grasses which my Betta love like moss ball buddies, they hide in it eat at it, and love swimming through it. I also found some bamboo looking Reeds, cleaned the roots pretty good and placed them in glass containers then set them in the tanks. Plants from river beds and lakes or ponds and even a pet store are very good for Betta as it provides a natural habitat environment and has nutritious qualities at the same time. The nice thing about the grasses Ive chosen are they provide a hood for my breeding tanks. Betta sometimes can jump out of the tanks. Be sure your not trespassing on private property before you go looking for plants for your aquariums, as I did find myself trespassing in the rivers that people  swim in and hike through where I live, I didnt know until a gentlemen had notified me, so I left right away.

my happy betta

I buy fry food and will soon be growing my own food cultures.

It is important to remember Betta only breed in the up most conditions which means when they are happy they will breed, when their tank is suitable they will be more than happy to breed their fry for you. You can get bubble nests all year long but to actually breed they need tender loving care, so they need extra attention and supplies. FYI Remember to remove all filters when fry become free swimming or before.

Also you may want to alternate fish tanks when cleaning for your fish if you end up using 1/2 gallon jars due to it's shape you dont want your Betta to get a kink from being in the tank too long.

The Introduction.

You may use a very tall jar to place the female in as a seprator from the rest of the breeding tank, or a wall seperator, or a net breeder. Let them get to know each other & condition them for about 3-10 days, as he builds up his bubble nest, then you may introduce them properly into their new mating environment together. You will need to try to keep an eye on them during the entire breeding process, it is understandable you may not be able to watch them the entire time. So little short breaks may be necessary but try not take too long of a break, as they do chase and bite each other during the mating process, and hurt each other.

Betta for the most part will attempt to breed under their nest, it is ideal to assist in the nest making process a quality nest means safe healthy fry. You may use a styrofoam piece like a cup or plate or bowl,  drape it in the area you prefer them to breed, and he will instantly go to work to impress his fair lady.

Breeding Tank Equipment

I use a Whisper 2-10 power filter- filters up to 10 gallons, and an aqua culture air pump for 5 gallon tanks, and an Insten 200w Aquarium Submersible Fish Tank Adjustable Heater 110-120v

MY BETTA BREEDING FACILITY WILL COST YOU ABOUT $255.00 TO GET STARTED GIVE OR TAKE WITH THE MATERIALS INCLUDING BETTA BREEDING FISH AND FOOD & WATER CONDITIONER, AQUARIUM TANKS AND ALL OTHER ESSENTIALS INCLUDED IN MY HOME BREEDING FACILITY IMAGES. THIS INCLUDES 2 1/2 GALLON MASON JARS AS TANKS, 4 1 GALLON AQUARIUMS, 1 2.5 GALLON CLEAR GLASS JUG AS AN AQUARIUM & A 2 5 GALLON GLASS AQUARIUMS WITH DECORATIONS AND LIVE PLANTS AS HOODING FOR THE TANKS, AND 10 BETTA

Just a heads up its easiest to clean your tanks when you have extra tanks readily available already clean &pre acclimated to transfer your betta into during the cleaning process. Never put a betta in an un-acclimated tank this could potentially become deadly for your betta.

Q:

How do you breed tropical fish?

A:

QUICK ANSWER

To breed tropical fishes, set aside a breeding tank, then choose the best parents from both sexes, and settle the pair in optimal conditions. Be sure to add hiding places in the breeding tank or aquarium like aquatic plants, rocks, or some toy structures like castles. Always prepare high quality food for the breeders and as much as possible, simulate the breeding season in their natural habitat.

How do you breed tropical fish?

Credit: Reinhard Dirscherl WaterFrame Getty Images

FULL ANSWER

Breeding tropical fishes can be taxing but fulfilling at the same time. For beginners, sexing, or verifying the sex of the fishes is quite a challenge. Fishes can be categorized as either sexually dimorphic or isomorphic, which means that the sex of some species can readily be recognized physically (dimorphic) or not (isomorphic).

Males are generally larger, more vibrantly-colored, and have more intricate fins while females are somewhat rounder in the abdominal area. The angel fish and some species of catfish are very hard to sexually distinguish but some like the bettas and cichlids are rather easy, making the latter two highly recommended for novices.

All fishes do not have vocal chords but they can communicate by grunting, hissing, or even moaning. Unlike most animals, fishes have taste buds located all over their body. However, similar to many animals, they can drown if the water does not have sufficient oxygen.

The Breeding Pair:
Make sure that the male and female are relatively the same size. Females are usually somewhat smaller than the males, but do not try to breed a very young male or female with a much older mate. Someone will get hurt.

Condition the Pair:
Feed well, preferably with live food (brine shrimp) and keep their water very clean. Allow the two to see each other for a couple of days and then remove the female from the male's sight before placing him in the breeding tank.

Breeding Tank:
Use a small tank (I use 5 l/2 gallon) with approximately no more than 4-5 inches of conditioned water; a corner sponge filter; submersible heater set at 80; a plastic lid or piece of Styrofoam cup cut for the bubblenest; and plastic or live plants so the female can hide when needed. Do not have any rocks or substrate in this tank.
Put the male in first. Let him get used to his surroundings for about an hour or so. Then introduce the female by putting her in a hurricane globe so the male can't get to her right away. They should show some interest in one another, and he should flare at her and start working on the bubble nest. (I had the experience a couple of times that the female was already full of eggs and very shortly after introducing her into the globe and seeing the male, she started to release her eggs very quickly. She had been bred several times before with the same mate. I released her immediately and the spawn began.)

Breeding:
When the bubblenest is fair size, and she displays vertical stripes and stands "on her head" in the globe, you release her. Also look for her breeding tube to be protruding. It is visible behind the pelvic fin. There can and will probably be some nipping and chasing during this time. As long as they are not sparring too badly, leave them alone. If one or the other is being torn up very much, they are not ready. Put her back in the globe. Some sparring will occur as this is the ritual of their mating but should not be permitted to last for great length of time.
The process of the pair "being ready" can take from l hour to 4 or 5 days.
When they are ready, he will entice her to the nest, and she will eventually follow. The mating process can take anywhere from 1 hour to 4 or 5 hours. He will "embrace" her, squeeze the eggs out, and the eggs will fall to the floor of the tank. She will look like he has killed her, being very still and motionless for a few seconds, like in a trance. He will catch or pick up the eggs from the floor of the tank and "blow" into the bubble nest. (I had one pair in which the male would not have anything to do with the eggs, and the female was the one who picked up the eggs and put them into the nest.)
When the spawning is complete, she will swim away from the male and hide. He usually won't bother her as he is busy picking up eggs that fall from the nest. When spawning is done, remove her immediately (taking care not to disturb the nest) as she may become interested in the eggs and start eating them. The eggs are white and are a little bigger than a grain of salt. You will probably need a magnifying glass to see them hanging from the bubble nest.

If I were to ever sell my Betta Breeding farm I could easily and comfortably ask $350 for all the equipment tanks and fish for the entire setup, but not to cheat myself if I were to ever sell it I would sell it as a breeding facility setup system it would include everything I own for my Betta fish included and I would ask much more for the whole setup. As of currently it is not for sale.

Remember that breeding beta fish is not for the faint hearted. Don’t be shocked if things get pretty brutal during spawning. Sometimes before they mate the male and female bettas will fight. On rare occasions to the death. Which is probably not the desired effect.

Other times a male and female won’t be able to mate. If the female doesn’t flare back at the male and hides in the corner, it’s perhaps best to try again later. No sense in stressing her out or risking her life needlessly if she isn’t ready. Reason being breeding bettas is a full contact sport. After the male wraps himself around the female to mate, she may appear to be stunned. This is normal. The female may also lose scales or get frayed fins in the breeding process.

There are several different species of Bettas, though the one most often seen in the aquarium hobby is Betta splendens, the Siamese Fighting Fish. All Bettas aretropical fish found in the warm and hot waters at lower altitudes in southeast Asia.Aug 11, 2014

EXOTIC ANIMALS OREGON

Several agencies are involved in the keeping of exotic animals in Oregon.

Local

https://www.oregon.gov/ODA/programs/AnimalHealthFeedsLivestockID/AnimalImportExport/Pages/ExoticAnimals.aspx

Local city and/or county ordinances may apply and should be investigated prior to acquiring an exotic animal.

State

As of January 1, 2010 the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) no longer issues new exotic animal permits. ODA continues to regulate those facilities maintaining exotic animals proir to the January 1, 2010 date.

Exotic animals are defined in Oregon as:

  • Non-human primates
  • Bears, except for the American Black Bear
  • Non-indigenous canines which are not domestic or domestic crosses
  • Non-indigenous felines which are not domestic or domestic crosses
  • Crocodilians

Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) regulates indigenous wildlife and non-native wildlife species.

National

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulates:

  • Dealers
  • Exhibitors
  • Transporters
  • Researchers

This work is carried out by USDA-APHIS. Possession of a USDA breeder or exhibitor license exempts the holder from ODA permit requirements.

Exemptions

Oregon law (ORS 609.345) allows for certain exemptions to permit requirements such as law enforcement agencies, educational facilities, research facilities, permitted wildlife rehabilitation centers, and disabled persons with service monkeys.

A certificate of veterinary inspection (CVI), import permit, and other species-specific tests will be required for those exotic animals imported into the state destined for permitted facilities or under an exemption.

I collect and am learning to breed Betta

Tips:

1-It is always a good idea to keep the containers and or the receipt that comes with your fish when you store purchase a fish, so you may refer to its identification and sales price at a future date, you never know you may need them in order to sell your spawn fry.

2-Acclamate your tank for your new fish by allowing water from tap if using tap to set and acclamate to room temperature for 24 hours this allows the chlorine to evaporate enough to be in the safe zone, and warm up as to not shock the fish.Remember to repeat this method when cleaning the tanks every 7-10 days.

3-If you can, try to keep them away from each others sight. You can do this by using dividers or books to block their vision from the other tanks by placing the books between each tank, or just simply place the tanks on different shelves if you have the room. You can also fold a piece of paper in half anduse that to divide the tanks instead.

Tail Patterns and colours -

SOLID COLOURS -

Solid colours are properly the most common Betta colour, and as you most likely guessed from the name, they have one single colour from the tip of their head right down to their fins. There is many solid colours available. Such as:

RED: Red is the most common along with blue, and is a very dominant colour when breeding.

This boy is extended red. Extended red is an intense version of red, that covers the betta from head to tail, included pectoral fins (fins on the side of their body).

DRAGON: A newish pattern that is becoming increasingly popular. Dragon Betta's usually have a bright, strong base, such as red, with their scales highlighted in a pale iridescent colour. Their scales seem to resemble that of a lizard - or dragon.

See how these dragon Betta's scales are highlighted?

Best Answer:  well first of all you have to know who and where are you going to sell you're betta fry to once you can sex them witch is about 5-6months of age!

i have been breeding bettas for over 3yrs now and i have made more then i thought i would make.

also remember when you're selling you're bettas you have to know everything about you're bettas as in breed, back ground, colors, genetics!

allot of people wont buy them from anyone that don't have a back ground about them or there bettas witch mean you need to set up a page on you tube and make videos of you're fish so they know when they spawned and they know when they hatch doing this will deff bring you're buyers to you but remember you can't sell them over seas with out a lic and proper paper work!

most places like petco, petsmart wont buy them from you being that you're not a lic seller for bettas so you're best bet would be little per shops or on ebay as well as you tube.

good luck

adding
you can make you're money back and them some i've been breeding bettas forr over 3yrs and the first few spawns were hard only because you have to find you're own way of breeding that works for you!!

i spawn bettas all year round and with my spawns im able to save 150-200 fry out of one spawn! then i sell them for $25.00 single or a pair for $60.00-$80.00 i have over 30 pairs of breeders and i breed half moons, crowntails, spades tails, dubble tails, feather tails.

you can make you're money if you're willing to put you're time into doing it the right way!!

everyone says you don't get much eggs from you're females but if you feed them the right way you can get very big numbers out of them!!

below is a sample of the certificates i will post for each spawning for you to print out when you purchase one of my fry.
