note there is a high mortality rate amongst breeding betta so be cautious when breeding and remember if your betta dies it's not necessarily your fault these things do happen trust me it happens.
Breeding Tips:
1) condition your female by feeding her well twice a day for 2 weeks it really doesnt matter what you feed her, some people prefer a protein diet strictly for conditioning their fish. The idea is to get her belly big and round and for her to show her egg spot (ovipositor).
2) purchase a breeding kit, like a net breeder or hatchery you can get them at walmart or on amazon or in pet stores. also use a styrofoam cup cut in half longways for nest building styrofoam plates also work but the edges will end up under water slowly destroying the nest.
3) allow your fish to see each other for a little while then place them in the same tank together for a day if they do not breed separate them for another day or 2 he should then build a nest, once nest is accomplished put them together again, if he builds a nest in fish bowl breed them in fish bowl other wise if you left him in a larger tank and he built a nest breed him there instead.
4) be patient....... if any injuries are sustained and they are critical separate them and allow the female to heal also hope for the best. SEPARATE MALE AND FEMALE ONCE YOUR SURE BREEDING HAS STOPPED OR THEY WILL HARM EACH OTHER.
5) when conditioning you will want to feed twice 2x's a day lightly same amount youd feed them the one time a day just add a second feeding at the end of the day usual amount youd normally feed them. some times you may not need to condition as female may already be egg bound.
